Folic acid in pregnancy

Folic acid is a B-group vitamin used in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to reduce the risk of neural tube defects. But there is no known benefit, and perhaps even some risk associated with taking Folic acid in the later stages of pregnancy.

We are supporting a large-scale trial that will help determine if folic acid in the second and third trimester is linked with an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes.

Pregnancy in women with kidney disease

Women with kidney disease face high-risk pregnancies, and are much more likely to experience complications that impact both mother and baby. Careful planning and monitoring is required to give these mums and babies the best possible chance. We are supporting a Masters by Research project that will inform new frameworks and models of care for safer pregnancy planning in women with kidney disease.
